Not to be confused with ‘Wish You Were Hare’!

Thank you for your interest in applying to be part of the ‘Wish You Were Here’ Online Postcard Auction.

Overview

It’s all very scary, and as a start-up business, frustrating during this lockdown, but we decided that whilst we can’t be open physically to the public to be able to show the fabulous artwork we have in the gallery, we can, have an online exhibition that everyone can see, whilst raising funds for a charity.

We are all ‘mostly’, following the rules of lockdown, which means that we can’t all be with love ones and can’t venture out far to be inspired or go for a proper break. We understand and accept that this is for the good of us, and others. So, we thought that whilst we wished you were here, we’d find an alternative, virtual way to share our love for creativity and community.

We have targeted ourselves a shortlist of 50 UK artists to send us a postcard (or two) with their original designs on, and we will auction them off online with profits going to NHS Charities Together. We know that there are many people already raising funds for this cause, but we too want to show our appreciation in recognition of the amazing work they do.
The plan is that they will be online to view, but also, depending on the lifting of the lockdown and timescales, have them displayed at the gallery.

How it will work

The applications are open to UK Artists only
Artists apply via email to inthepicture@themessyharegallery.co.uk by the 31st May 2020. With ALL of the following information to be considered. We will unfortunately not be able to consider applicants for shortlisting if full information is not supplied:

1. Full name of artist (and alias if applicable)
2. Medium you work in
3. Town / City Where you live
4. Short Bio (approx. 30 to 50 words)
5. Outlets where you currently stock / sell your work
6. Attach 3 jpg examples of your work – please do not send links

We will then review the applications and contact shortlisted artists by email with a payment link request of £5 and ask for confirmation of your postal address. Before 8th June 2020. The payment will go towards admin and material costs involved to ensure that as much profit as possible from the auction sale goes to the charity.

Unfortunately we may not be able to contact unsuccessful entries individually.

Once your payment has been received (must be received by 15th June 2020), we will post out 2 blank postcards and a return address envelope. Do not post to the Gallery, as we cannot guarantee access to the premises in time for deadline. (NB You will need a stamp to send us your artwork).

The deadline for receiving artwork is 15th July 2020. NB You are invited to submit either one or two postcards. Please remember that these need to be 2D as they will all be framed in the same style frame.

We need time to collate, frame (if gallery open in time), scan and upload postcard designs to the auction site. NB Your artwork will be anonymous on the site, but you can promote your artwork link to your friends and followers.

If the gallery is open in time, we will arrange a preview evening, this will be a closed event available to all participating artists (plus a guest). This will be announced at a later date.
The online auction, along with shared link, will commence on the 1st August 2020 and close on 31st August 2020.

Winning Bidders will receive their framed piece together with details about the artist after the auction has finished.

All shortlisted artists will receive a voucher for a speciality coffee or tea at the gallery coffee shop to use by the 15th December 2020.

The artist who reaches the highest bid will win the opportunity to have a small exhibition at our Gallery on a mutually agreeable date for a period of 1 month. NB Though artist Michele (co-owner) is going to be included in artists within the auction, she is excluded in this element of the activity.
